Q-Burn Live: the man who wrote „One and One Is One“

Thursdays at 20:00 and Saturdays at 12:00 CEST, Q-Burn airs at feelgood.fm. Two hours of music picked by Peter „PA“ Antony. He brought the name with him from the vinyl era: a „Q-Burn“ was the worn lead-in groove on a single, visible proof that a DJ had played it again and again. Several times a year Peter leaves the studio and takes the show onto a stage. On Saturday 29 August he does it again, and this time the stage holds someone who wrote a record like that, a true „Q-Burn“.

John Fiddler founded Medicine Head in 1968 with harmonica player Peter Hope-Evans. What followed sounds invented: John Peel caught them in a club, played their recordings to John Lennon and at Lennon’s insistence the duo ended up on Peel’s Dandelion label. Peel kept their debut single „His Guiding Hand“ in his box of most treasured records for the rest of his life. In 1973, „One and One Is One“ reached number 3 in the UK charts. A year earlier the band had released an album called „Dark Side of the Moon“; Pink Floyd hadn’t got there yet.

Fiddler later played in British Lions alongside former Mott the Hoople musicians, and in Box of Frogs. He tours under the Medicine Head name again today, with new albums behind him.

Joining him: Richard Sharp and The Lawyer and the Draper, both familiar faces from recent nights on the Thames.

Hosting the evening is Peter „PA“ Antony himself. Anyone who knows his voice from our frequency can see him here rather than just hear him. The same signature, only with an audience in front and a band behind. A true Bad Boy of Radio!

The venue does the rest. Hampton Sailing Club sits on Benn’s Island in the middle of the Thames, reached only by a private chain ferry. You cross a river to get to a gig.

And after that? Q-Burn Live carries on into the autumn: Friday 18 September and Saturday 17 October, both at Hampton Sailing Club again. We’ll announce the line-ups as soon as they’re confirmed – from now on you’ll find every date of the series right here. Until then: Thursdays 20:00–22:00, Saturdays 12:00–14:00 CEST, here on Feelgood FM.
